Surfski in Sweden is growing

Despite the rather rough weather conditions in Sweden, surfski paddling is growing rapidly. During the winter and early spring, between December and March you must struggle to find open water, free from ice. Often the temperature falls to below -20 degrees Celsius (-4 degrees Farenheit) and there are much better ways to work out, like cross country skiing or ice skating.

But then – as we reach april – the water belongs to us… Sweden has a lot of lakes and our archipelago is stunning  (to die for), perfect for surfski paddling!

We have approx. 70-80 dedicated surfski paddlers right now. Half of them are mostly interested in ocean racing, we have  another 20 paddlers mostly interested in multi sport and the rest are in to Life Saving.

In 2009 we hope to arrange a few races, for example in the archipelago in Stockholm, Oxelösund or Norrköping and why not in Halmstad or in the most southern part of Sweden in Skåne.

  1. Why not a race in Norrland, too ? We also have a nice archipelago … 🙂

  2. Yes, go for it Scott! Would be fun!
