2009 U.S. Surfski Championships

2009 U.S. Surfski Championships, August 22 & 23


The U.S. Surfski Championships are set for August 22 & 23. This year’s venue includes a new course that will be 80% downwind. This newly designed course will take paddlers out the Golden Gate and around the infamous Point Bonita Buoy where the course then turns downwind for a 13 mile run to Berkeley . The run from Point Bonita to Berkeley is one of the best downwinds in Northern California .

There will also be $12,000 in prize money up for grabs for the international field of top paddlers from Australia , South Africa , France , Spain , Tahiti , Canada , and the U.S.

Competitors this year include the 2006 USSSC winner Dawid Mocke and Barry Lewin from South Africa . Australia ‘s Dean Gardiner is returning after a 5 year hiatus and bringing a contingent of Aussies along with him. All in all, this year’s U.S. Surfski Championships is shaping up to be the most competitive race ever!

The first 100 registered and confirmed racers will receive an official event jersey from Paddleme Sportswear. Be sure and register by August 7 to take advantage of the lower race fees.

In addition, the official host hotel, The Doubletree Berkeley Marina, is offering reduced room rates from August 20 through August 23. These special rates are available until August 1 or until the room blocks are filled. The Hotel is within walking distance from the Friday demos and clinics, the Saturday long course finish line, and all of the Sunday events.
